Accord Oxygen Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2003 Honda Accord with a check engine light indicating an oxygen sensor heater failure, accompanied by increased fuel consumption. The problem is likely related to the oxygen sensor or its circuit, as suggested by the error code. While electrical testing could pinpoint the issue, the recommendation is to seek professional diagnosis and repair, which ultimately revealed a defective plug connection as the cause.

Electrical testing? Honestly, no. I wouldn't even know where to begin with a multimeter on the sensor. Is it something I could easily damage? Could it be something else entirely, or is the O2 sensor the most likely culprit given the error code?

While other factors could contribute, the stored error code strongly suggests a fault within the oxygen sensor heater circuit itself, which includes the sensor, wiring, and associated connectors. Further diagnostics are required to verify if the root cause is the sensor or harness. Given your lack of experience with electrical testing, I advise you take your vehicle to a qualified workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Thanks for the advice. I suspected it was best left to the pros. I've booked it in. It was a defective plug connection - 95€ and all sorted!

The symptoms you describe are consistent with an oxygen sensor heater malfunction. As you've observed an increase in fuel consumption, the air-fuel ratio is likely being affected. Have you performed any electrical testing on the sensor circuit or the sensor itself using a multimeter?
