Active hood fault and airbag light
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Volvo S80 owner experienced an "Active hood fault" message and an airbag warning light, with diagnostic tools indicating an issue with the active hood. The problem was traced to the acceleration sensors, which can trigger the system without an actual impact. A workshop diagnosed and resolved the issue by replacing the defective sensor.

Acceleration sensors? Where are they located and how did you figure out that was the problem? Any special tools needed to check them?

Yeah, the acceleration sensors, also sometimes called impact sensors. I didn't locate them myself, honestly. I took it to a trusted workshop and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. They mentioned that if the sensors are defective, it can trigger the system even without an actual impact. It's best to get it properly diagnosed, since it's all tied into the airbag system.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to my local mechanic as you suggested. Turns out it was indeed the acceleration sensor, just as you suspected. Repair, including the new sensor and labor, came to around 315€. Appreciate the help!

I had something similar happen on my S80 a while back. Same active hood fault message and airbag light. Did you check the acceleration sensors? That's what caused my issues.
