Active hood fault and airbag light

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2000 Vauxhall Vectra diesel. The on-board computer keeps displaying "Active hood fault," and the airbag warning light is on. I checked the error memory, and there's something stored there. I think I felt the spring actuators in the hood go off, like the pedestrian safety thing triggered for no reason! Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I'm kinda worried, especially with the airbag light being on!

Whoa, that sounds messed up! I've got a Vectra too, and I had something similar happen a while back. The "Active hood fault" message popped up, and it turned out to be a faulty acceleration sensor. These sensors are part of the active hood system, designed to pop the hood up in case of a pedestrian collision. Is it possible that one of your impact sensors is playing up?

An acceleration sensor, huh? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially check myself? I'm not super technical, but I'm willing to give it a shot before taking it to a workshop. Also, did you have the airbag light on as well? That's what's really got me concerned.

Yeah, the airbag light came on for me too, I think it's all tied into the same system. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend messing with the sensor yourself unless you really know what you're doing, especially with the airbags involved. You could accidentally trigger something or make it worse. I ended up taking mine to a workshop, and they sorted it out pretty quickly. It's probably best to get it checked by a professional to be safe.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I think you're right; I'll take it to a workshop to get it checked out. The workshop just called, and they said it was a defective acceleration sensor causing the active hood fault and triggering the airbag light. Cost me 315€ to get it sorted, but at least it's fixed! I really appreciate the help!
