Active hood fault and airbag light issues

I'm worried about my 2013 Mercedes A Klasse diesel. With 261265 km, I'm getting an "Active hood fault" message and the airbag light is on. A garage found an error, mentioning triggered spring actuators and suspecting a defective acceleration sensor, quoting 315€. Is that right? Has anyone experienced a similar fault related to the active hood or collision detection? I'm concerned about pedestrian safety.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my A Klasse. The "Active hood fault" message is definitely not something you want to ignore, it's part of the pedestrian safety system. The airbag light coming on at the same time also suggests something is seriously wrong. Was the error code related to the acceleration sensor specifically, or was it something more general? Did they mention anything else about the collision detection?

Thanks for your reply! I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one. I'm not very technically minded, so I can only repeat what the mechanic told me. I think the error code pointed towards the acceleration sensor in the active hood system. They seemed pretty confident that was the issue, but it's still a hefty bill. Was your issue fixed by replacing the acceleration sensor, and did it clear all the warning messages?

Yes, replacing the acceleration sensor sorted it out completely. The error message disappeared, and the airbag light went off. Given the potential safety implications – especially concerning pedestrian safety – it's really not worth driving around with that fault. I know it's annoying and it's another expense, but I'd strongly recommend getting it sorted at a workshop.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! It's put my mind at ease knowing that replacing the acceleration sensor should resolve the issue. I went ahead and booked the repair at the workshop. They replaced the acceleration sensor and cleared the error codes. The "Active hood fault" message is now gone, and the airbag light is off. The total cost was indeed around 315€. Many thanks again for your help!
