Adam brake light switch failure

Hey, I've got a perplexing issue with my 2012 Vauxhall Adam (gasoline engine). It has 249874 km on the clock. The brake lights are failing intermittently, and an error message pops up. The diagnostic tool says it's the brake light switch. I've checked the bulbs, and they're fine. Could it really be the switch?

I have the Adam as well, and I recall grappling with similar symptoms not too long ago. Error stored in the error memory, failure of the brake light function, all quite irritating. Have you been resting your foot on the brake pedal while driving? That could prematurely wear out the switch.

Thanks for the quick response. I have been trying to shake the habit of resting my foot on the brake pedal. Could that really cause the brake light switch to fail completely? And wouldn't that cause issues with other brake system components?

Yep, that habit can definitely kill the switch faster. It's a cheap part, but its failure can cause the error messages you're seeing. It shouldn't directly affect other major brake components at first, but I wouldn't drive it more than you have to until you replace the switch. I'd recommend a visit to your trusted workshop.

I appreciate the advice. You were right. The mechanic confirmed my bad habit made the switch fail early. They replaced it in a few minutes, and the error messages are gone. It was covered under warranty. Thanks for your help!
