Bubbles, you say? I'll have to check that in the morning. Where exactly should I be looking?

Yes, those tiny bubbles! If they are there, it interferes with the light refraction and messes up the sensor readings. In my experience, there isn't anything you can do yourself. The best course of action is to visit the workshop. They can diagnose the issue and give you the best solution.

Turns out, bubbles were the culprit. Took it to a shop, they replaced the gel pad, and it set me back 62€. Everything's working perfectly now! You saved me a ton of guesswork.

Sounds like a malfunctioning sensor for sure. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo C30 a few years back. Did you notice any bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield, where the sensor sits?
