Albea Automatic Transmission Torque Converter Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Fiat Albea with 50767 km is experiencing issues with the automatic transmission, including slipping, unclean gear shifts, and grinding noises. The check engine light and transmission indicator are on, and a mechanic identified an error code pointing to a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. A similar case suggested that the symptoms, including engine surge at highway speeds, indicate a failing torque converter lock-up clutch, and recommended having it repaired at a specialized workshop to prevent further damage.

I do recall a subtle engine surge at highway speeds, especially when the car is under a slight load. Could you elaborate more on the solution?

Engine surge seals it. Sounds like the torque converter lock-up clutch is toast. Best to get it checked out at a workshop that specializes in automatic transmissions. Continuing to drive it might cause even more damage. It ain't pretty when those auto transmissions go south.

With the error codes and your experience, I've authorized the repairs at the workshop. The estimated cost is approximately 2120€. Thanks for your help!

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms with my Albea (though I don't remember the exact year). Check engine light, weird shifts. Was like trying to butter bread with a hammer sometimes. Did they happen to mention anything about engine surge or shuddering at certain speeds? That's what clinched it for me.
