Albea bumper antenna signal issue

I'm having a peculiar issue with my 2006 Fiat Albea (gasoline engine). Mileage is at 197823 km. The car throws an error related to the bumper antenna. Now, the remote unlock/lock feature is erratic, and the engine refuses to start without the key physically in the ignition. I suspect a faulty cable or connector to the antenna. Has anyone else experienced similar signal interference?

Summary of the thread

The 2006 Fiat Albea is experiencing issues with the bumper antenna, leading to erratic remote unlock/lock functionality and requiring the key to be physically in the ignition to start the engine. The suspected cause is a faulty cable or connector to the antenna. A similar issue in another vehicle was due to a corroded antenna mount, suggesting potential hidden damage. The problem was resolved by repairing a defective plug connection on the bumper antenna.

I encountered a somewhat analogous situation with my 2012 Opel Astra, although the models differ substantially. My symptoms included intermittent central locking failure and, occasionally, the alarm activating spontaneously. The underlying problem stemmed from a corroded antenna mount, resulting in signal attenuation. Was the antenna assembly on your Albea exposed to moisture or physical stress?

That's interesting. I haven't noticed any visible corrosion on the antenna mount itself. However, given the age of the vehicle, hidden damage is possible. When you mention signal attenuation, are you referring to the radio reception as well, or solely the remote locking system?

In my specific scenario, signal attenuation primarily manifested in the impaired functionality of the remote locking mechanism and the alarm system. The car radio continued to perform within acceptable parameters. Given the nature of your symptoms, I would advise consulting a qualified automotive technician to perform a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. Ignoring this issue could cause additional problems.

Thank you for the insights. I appreciate you sharing your experience. As it turns out, a visit to the workshop confirmed a defective plug connection on the bumper antenna. Repair cost was 95€. Everything works now.
