Albea oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
The 2007 Fiat Albea diesel is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noise, potentially indicating oil pump failure. Oil and filter were changed about 5000km ago. I didn't notice any metal particles then, but I also wasn't specifically looking for them. If it is the oil pump, is it safe to drive?

Given the loud mechanical noises and the oil pressure light, driving it any further is extremely risky. You could cause serious, irreversible damage to the engine bearings. If the oil pump is failing, it might not be providing enough lubrication, leading to rapid wear. It's best to get it towed to a workshop to have it properly diagnosed and repaired before running the engine again.

Thanks for the advice. I had it towed to a mechanic, and you were right. The oil pump was faulty and starving the engine of oil. Total repair cost including a new pump, fresh oil and labour was 755€. Lesson learned!

Low oil pressure with those symptoms on a diesel engine of that age and mileage could definitely point towards oil pump issues. It's also worth checking the engine oil level and for any signs of oil leakage first. When was the last time you changed the oil and filter? Have you noticed any metallic particles in the old oil?
