Albea Overheating and Bypass Valve Error
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Fiat Albea diesel was experiencing overheating and a bypass valve error. Initial concerns included potential causes like a vacuum leak, engine stalling, or a malfunctioning EGR valve. The actual issue was identified as a faulty thermostat, which triggered a 'ghost code' for the bypass valve error. The problem was resolved under warranty at no cost.

The engine is definitely overheating, not just the gauge. Could a malfunctioning EGR valve cause both the overheating and the bypass valve error? Is there a link between the air intake, exhaust, and the error code?

If it's actually overheating, that's more serious. I'm not experienced enough to say for sure, but an EGR valve problem could definitely cause issues. Get it checked by someone who knows these cars well before something expensive breaks.

The bypass valve error was a 'ghost code' caused by a faulty thermostat. The repair was covered by warranty, so it cost 0€.

Could it be a faulty sensor giving incorrect readings and triggering the bypass valve error? Is the engine actually overheating, or is the temperature gauge just showing high?
