Alfa 159 Climate Control Failure: Temp Sensor Fix Needed

My Alfa 159 (2010, gasoline, 95954km) has climate control issues, the automatic temperature setting stopped working completely. The AC wont turn on at all and throws an error code. I suspect its the interior temperature sensor causing these climate regulation problems. Has anyone dealt with similar sensor replacement on their Alfa? Looking for recommendations on repair costs and trustworthy fixes after a bad experience with my last mechanic. Thanks for any input.

Had the same climate control issues with my Alfa Giulietta 2013. The temperature sensor failure caused the HVAC system to malfunction similarly. Initially thought it was the AC compressor, but diagnostic tests confirmed a faulty interior temperature sensor and damaged wiring connections. The repair involved: Complete sensor unit replacement, Rewiring the damaged connection to the climate control module, Recalibrating the HVAC sensor system This was a serious issue since driving without proper climate regulation can lead to windshield fogging and safety concerns. The temperature sensor replacement is a complex job requiring specialized diagnostic equipment to properly calibrate the new unit with the climate control module. The repair itself took about 4 hours at the workshop. Make sure your mechanic has experience with Alfa Romeo climate systems, as incorrect calibration can cause persistent temperature regulation problems. Getting the right OEM sensor part is crucial, aftermarket versions often cause compatibility issues with the climate control module. After the fix, the automatic climate control worked perfectly again, maintaining set temperatures accurately. No error codes since then.

Thanks for sharing your Giulietta repair experience. My 159 had nearly identical climate issues and HVAC sensor problems. Interesting that yours also needed rewiring work. Did you remember the total cost for the sensor replacement and calibration? Just wondering how it compares since prices vary quite a bit. Also curious if you had any other climate control quirks pop up after the fix? My 159 has been running fine for about 6 months now but I keep a close eye on the temperature readings.

Good to hear your 159 is running well after 6 months. Just wanted to follow up about my Giulietta repair costs since you asked. The faulty interior temperature sensor turned out to be mainly a cable connection problem. Getting it properly diagnosed and fixed cost 95 Euro for the wiring repair job. Much cheaper than a full sensor replacement, which would have been several hundred more. My mechanic found the sensor itself was actually fine, the climate control issues came from a damaged plug connection that was causing erratic temperature readings. After fixing that connection, they ran sensor diagnostics to confirm everything was properly calibrated. No temperature sensor issues or climate control quirks since the repair. The automatic climate system maintains steady temps now and the error codes are gone. Your 159 seems to be doing well too, which is great. These sensor issues can be tricky to diagnose but usually have straightforward fixes once you find the root cause.

The whole story had a happy ending. After dealing with those frustrating climate control problems, I finally took my 159 to a specialist Alfa workshop. The mechanic quickly diagnosed the faulty temperature sensor using their diagnostic equipment. The repair took about 3 hours and cost 320 Euro total, not cheap but worth it for a proper fix. They replaced the temperature sensor and recalibrated the entire HVAC system. The climate control has worked flawlessly since then, maintaining perfect cabin temperatures without any error codes. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who just kept resetting the system without fixing the underlying sensor issue. Sometimes paying more for knowledgeable specialists really pays off, especially with complex climate control systems. Looking back, I probably should have gone to them first instead of wasting time with cheaper options. But at least the car is running great now and I know where to go if any other sensor diagnostics are needed in the future.
