Thanks for sharing your experience with the DPF issue. My Alfa 166 is running fine now after fixing similar problems. Really useful info about the sensor faults and regeneration cycles. The backpressure symptoms you described match exactly what I experienced. Would you mind sharing how much the complete repair cost in your case? Just curious if the price was similar to what I paid. Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other diesel particulate filter issues?

Thanks for asking about the costs. After seeing the mechanic for the defective diesel particulate filter, the total repair came to 1550 Euro. This included the complete DPF cleaning, sensor replacements, and a thorough regeneration cycle. The system has been working flawlessly since the fix, no more backpressure issues, black smoke, or engine light warnings. The diesel filter performance returned to normal, and fuel consumption actually improved noticeably after the repair. Its been about 8 months now, and the DPF system maintains proper regeneration cycles without any problems. Regular highway drives help keep the system clean, preventing soot buildup. Keeping an eye on the engine light has become a habit, but it hasnt come back on since the repair. Great to hear your Alfa 166 is running well after fixing similar issues. These repairs might seem costly, but they prevent more serious engine damage in the long run.

Thanks everyone for the input. I finally got my Alfa fixed last week, and the repair cost was quite similar, around 1600 Euro for the complete job. The exhaust system needed a thorough cleanup, and they found two faulty sensors during the vehicle inspection. The mechanic I found specializes in diesel engines and actually took the time to explain the whole process. They showed me the clogged filter and demonstrated how the regeneration cycle works. Much better experience than my previous shop visits. The engine light is finally off, and the car runs like new. No more black smoke or power loss during acceleration. The fuel consumption has definitely improved too. Really glad I addressed this before it caused more serious engine damage. For anyone facing similar issues, getting a proper diagnosis from a diesel specialist is worth the initial consultation cost. Regular motorway drives have helped maintain the system, and Im keeping a close eye on any warning signs to prevent future filter replacement needs.

Had similar symptoms on my Alfa 159 2.4 JTD from 2010. The DPF was completely clogged, causing severe power loss and black smoke during acceleration. Simple filter replacement wasnt enough, the entire DPF system needed attention. The repair involved a complete DPF cleaning and regeneration cycle, plus replacing several sensors that had failed due to the excessive soot buildup. This was definitely a serious issue that required immediate attention to prevent engine damage. These symptoms typically indicate the DPF has exceeded its normal cleaning capacity. The constant engine light and performance issues match classic signs of a saturated diesel filter system. Worth noting that driving patterns with lots of short trips can accelerate this problem. The fix restored normal power delivery and fuel efficiency. Important to address this quickly, as continued driving with a failing DPF can lead to more expensive engine repairs. Regular maintenance and occasional forced regeneration cycles help prevent these issues. A specialized diesel workshop would be better equipped to handle this compared to a general mechanic, as they have proper diagnostic tools for DPF systems.
