Alfa GTV Active Hood & Airbag System Failure Alert

Having issues with my 2004 Alfa GTV showing multiple warnings. The car sensor system displays Active hood fault message, plus the airbag warning is lit up. The hood latch system seems affected since both spring actuators have triggered. Already checked the error memory which confirms there is a fault stored. Looking for repair tips from anyone who has dealt with this specific issue before. How did your workshop resolve it and what was the root cause? Need to understand if this is a common failure point in the crash detection system or something else entirely. Any experience with repair costs would be helpful too.

I dealt with a similar car electronics issue on my 2002 Alfa 156, which shares many components with the GTV. Having some experience with these models, I can tell you the collision detection and safety systems are quite interconnected. Had almost identical symptoms: active hood warnings, airbag light, and triggered actuators. The workshop diagnosed a faulty acceleration sensor that was sending incorrect signals to the car safety system. This caused the hood latch system to activate unnecessarily, thinking a collision had occurred. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Replacing the acceleration sensor, Resetting the hood latch system, Clearing all fault codes Total cost was 315 Euro including parts and labor. The repair solved all issues completely. Before providing more specific advice, could you share: Have you had any recent work done on the car electronics? Did the problem appear suddenly or gradually? Are there any other warning lights active? Has the car been in any minor impacts or accidents? These details would help determine if your issue matches the sensor failure I experienced or points to something else in the safety system.

Latest service was 2 months ago at 104931 KM. Thanks for this detailed response. No recent electronics work or accidents to report. The system fault appeared suddenly during regular driving. The crash detection system seems to have triggered without any impact. Currently only showing the mentioned warnings. Did your workshop mention if the sensor replacement required any special calibration process? Also curious about the diagnostic codes they found, as it might help confirm if my issue is identical to yours. The 315 Euro repair cost sounds reasonable if it resolves all these safety system warnings.

Based on my experience with the Alfa 156 sensor issue, the repair did require specific calibration after installation. The workshop used specialized diagnostic equipment to properly integrate the new sensor with the car safety system. The main diagnostic code was P1590 (acceleration sensor circuit fault), which triggered the cascade of pedestrian safety system warnings. This matches your symptoms of spontaneous activation without impact. Some key points from my repair: Calibration took about 1 hour, Workshop needed brand-specific diagnostic tools, System required full reboot after sensor replacement, All safety systems needed testing post-repair The 315 Euro total included the calibration work. Without proper sensor calibration, the collision detection system can trigger false positives, exactly like what you are experiencing. Given your identical symptoms and the sudden onset during normal driving, it strongly suggests the same acceleration sensor fault. The system thinks it detected a crash when there was none, activating all connected safety features. Would recommend getting the specific diagnostic codes checked and compared to P1590 to confirm before proceeding with repairs.

Thanks everyone for the help. Getting more confident this is indeed the acceleration sensor causing these system faults. Your experiences match my situation perfectly, especially with how the crash detection triggered unexpectedly during normal driving. Will book the car in next week and specifically ask them to check for the P1590 code and examine the acceleration sensor. Good to know about the required calibration process, will make sure the workshop has the proper diagnostic equipment for these safety systems. The 315 Euro repair cost seems fair for resolving these hood latch and airbag warning issues. Will post an update once the car sensor system has been checked and repaired. Hoping for the same positive outcome with all safety warnings cleared after the fix.
