Almera ABS and Steering Issues

My 2001 Nissan Almera diesel is showing some weird symptoms. The tire pressure light came on, and now the ABS light is intermittent, plus the steering wheel vibrates, especially at higher speeds. Steering also feels heavy, like the power steering is struggling. Mileage is only 66705 km. Anyone else had this?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Nissan Almera diesel exhibited issues with the tire pressure light, intermittent ABS light, and vibrating steering, particularly at higher speeds. These symptoms suggested a tire problem, potentially due to uneven pressure affecting the ABS sensors and power steering. A faulty valve causing a slow leak was identified as the root cause. Replacing the valve and rebalancing the tires resolved the issues, ensuring safe driving.

Based on those symptoms, especially the tire pressure warning with the ABS and power steering issues, it really points to a tire problem. A big pressure drop in one tire can mess with the ABS sensors and strain the power steering because of uneven rolling. Have you checked the tires for damage or used a gauge to check the pressures? What are the readings?

I haven't checked with a gauge yet, just looked at them and didn't see anything obvious. Could a bad valve cause this, even without a visible flat?

Yes, a bad valve could definitely be the problem. A slow leak from a faulty valve would gradually lower the tire pressure, triggering the warning light and affecting the ABS and steering as the pressure drops. However, to be sure and not miss anything, I'd recommend a workshop visit for a thorough check and repair. It's crucial to get it fixed properly for safety.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and it was a defective valve in one of the tires, leaking slowly. They replaced the valve and rebalanced all the tires. Cost me 280€, but at least it's safe to drive now.
