Almera Crankshaft Sensor Issue

My 2012 Nissan Almera with a gasoline engine (120360 km) has the check engine light on. Engine power is reduced, response is poor, and fuel consumption is higher. Diagnostic shows a 'Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value' issue. Could this be a defective crankshaft sensor?

That sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra a few years back. Different car, but the symptoms were almost identical – engine light, sluggish performance. I also got some weird reference value errors around the same mileage. Before jumping to conclusions, have you checked the wiring and connectors to the crankshaft sensor? Sometimes it's just a loose connection or corrosion.

Thanks! I haven't checked the wiring and connectors yet, but I will. Was the 'reference value error' also pointing to the crankshaft sensor in your case? Did you end up replacing it?

Yes, the error codes were pointing towards crankshaft/camshaft correlation, which led the mechanic to suspect the crankshaft sensor. I tried cleaning the connectors, but it didn't fix the problem. Eventually, I had to replace the crankshaft sensor. Given your symptoms and the error code, it's a likely culprit, but I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop before throwing parts at it. Could be other things too, but sensors are common.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and the cautious advice! I'll check the wiring first, and if that doesn't work, I'll take it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. I will let you know what happens.
