Almera exhaust smoke and power loss

My 2005 Nissan Almera with a diesel engine is giving me grief. The exhaust system warning light is on, engine power is seriously reduced, and it's blowing smoke like crazy when I accelerate! Plus, the exhaust smells awful. I think it might have something to do with the diesel particulate filter since I read about it, but the computer says exhaust pressure is too low. Any ideas?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar experience with my Almera a while back. Reduced power and smoke are definitely not fun. Did you notice any difference in fuel consumption or any unusual noises before the problems started?

Fuel consumption seems normal, but now that you mention it, I did hear a slight whistling sound from under the car a few weeks before all this started. Could that be related to the exhaust system?

That whistling sound is a definite clue. It does sound like the exhaust back pressure sensor is defective. Given the low pressure reading and the symptoms you're describing, it seems the best course of action now is to visit a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. The exhaust back pressure sensor was faulty. Cost me 245€ to get it replaced, but it's running like new now! I appreciate the help.
