Almera reduced engine power and battery light
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Nissan Almera is experiencing reduced engine power, a battery warning light, starting difficulties, and flickering lights, with an ECU error suggesting a faulty generator. The battery and alternator belt were checked and found to be in good condition, ruling out these as causes. The symptoms and error code strongly indicate a defective generator (alternator), leading to a recommendation for professional diagnosis and replacement. The generator was confirmed to be faulty and replaced, resolving the issues.

Thanks for the quick reply. The battery seems okay, holds a charge and isn't that old. I did check the belt, seems fine too. Could a bad starter motor cause similar symptoms, or is it really pointing at the generator?

While a failing starter motor can cause starting problems, it typically wouldn't explain the reduced engine power, warning lights, and flickering lights you're observing while the engine is running. Given the other symptoms and the error code, it's highly probable that the generator (alternator) is indeed defective. I would strongly advise you to consult a qualified mechanic for a thorough diagnosis and potential replacement of the generator.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on – the generator was toast. Cost me 960€ to replace, but at least it's running smoothly now. Thanks again!

Sorry to hear about the troubles you are experiencing with your Nissan Almera. The symptoms you described definitely point towards electrical issues. Has the battery itself been tested recently? A failing battery can sometimes mimic alternator problems. Also, have you checked the belt that drives the alternator to ensure it is in good condition and properly tensioned?
