Alphard immobilizer issue

I'm having trouble with my 2017 Toyota Alphard hybrid. It has about 162943 km on it. The engine won't start! Sometimes it starts for a second and then dies. I scanned it and there's some error stored related to the immobilizer. Any ideas? I'm worried it's something serious!

That sounds suspiciously like an immobilizer issue. I had a similar problem with my Alphard. Think of the immobilizer as a bouncer at a club – if it doesn't recognize your key, it won't let the engine start. Does the error code specifically mention anything about key signal or anti-theft system?

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, the error code does mention something about the key signal being weak or incorrect. What did you do to fix it when you had the same problem?

Okay, a weak or incorrect key signal nails it! I'm no mechanic, but my gut feeling is that your key needs to be reprogrammed. It's like the key's 'password' got corrupted. To be honest, I wouldn't mess with it myself. I ended up taking mine to a workshop that specializes in car electronics. They sorted it out pretty quickly. Could be worth getting yours checked out too.

Thanks a lot! I will take your advice and bring it to a workshop. It seems like a reprogramming of the key was indeed the issue. They fixed the immobilizer and the final repair cost was just 45€!
