Alternator fault - BMW 2 Series, model year 2018: failures, ABS/DSC faults and weak battery

Hey guys, have you had any experience with generator issues on a 2018 BMW 2 series? Mine shuts off for no reason, the ABS goes on strike, my lights flicker and the battery seems to be low when starting. Do you have any specific troubleshooting tips and can you share how your garage solved the problem? Thanks in advance for your experience and advice!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2016 BMW 1 Series. I would describe myself as someone with a bit of experience when it comes to driving. I had a faulty V-belt drive which caused similar symptoms to yours. Your problem could be something similar. I went to my garage at the time and they replaced the V-belt drive for 305 euros. That solved the problem. It's best to have it checked at your garage. May I ask how many kilometers your car has already driven? And when was the last inspection carried out? We may be able to help you better with this information. Please keep us up to date and good luck with your troubleshooting!

Hey, thanks for the tip about the V-belt drive, that could actually be my problem. My car has 27426 km on the odometer so far and the last inspection was just the other day. Could that have something to do with it? I will definitely visit my garage and have the V-belt drive checked. I'll keep you up to date. Thanks again!

Hello again! Another 305 euros, great. You always get something to do with a car, don't you? But good, I'm glad you trust my experience and are going to the garage. As for your 27426 km, that shouldn't normally be a problem with the alternator, but it's not impossible either. Also, the timing of your inspection is actually fine. However, sometimes defects occur immediately after the inspection due to the installation of poor quality parts or incorrect assembly, or just by chance. A thorough check, especially of the V-belt drive, is always a good idea. The battery, voltage regulator or alternator may also play a role. It's best to get a complete diagnosis to be sure. Good luck with that and let us know what comes out. Take care out there, buddy!

Hello, thanks again for the helpful answer! You're right, there's always something to do with a car. I hadn't considered the fact that problems can occur immediately after an inspection. I'll make sure my garage checks the battery, voltage regulator and alternator as well as the V-belt drive. I'll let you know as soon as I know more. See you then and thanks for your support! Take care of yourself too!

Hello, I would recommend checking the alternator and battery connections first. In this case a failing alternator can cause these issues. Also, I would inspect the voltage regulator and fuses. My mechanic was able to replace the alternator and cleaned battery terminals, which solved similar problems. Good luck!

It sounds like you're experiencing a serious issue. The warning lights and loss of acceleration could be due to a failing alternator or a serious electrical issue. It's also possible that there's a problem with your ABS system or power steering. Given the safety implications, I strongly recommend getting your car to a mechanic as soon as possible for a thorough inspection. Please keep us updated on the situation.
