Thank you for the information. You mentioned a frayed wire. Where exactly was this wire located in your BMW? Is there anything specific I should look for on my Altima?

On the BMW, the wire was located right at the connector to the clutch pedal switch itself, under the dashboard. It was difficult to see without a flashlight. I recommend inspecting the wiring harness and the connector at the clutch pedal switch in your Altima for any signs of damage: corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires. Given all the symptoms, it is probably a bad electrical connection. However, without proper diagnostic equipment, the safest option would be to bring it to a workshop to get it checked out.

I appreciate the advice. I checked the wiring and could not find any obvious faults, so I took it to a workshop. As you suggested, it was indeed the clutch pedal switch and a defective plug connection. The repair cost 95€. Thank you again for your help.

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a faulty clutch pedal switch or its associated wiring. The clutch pedal switch is a safety mechanism that signals to the car's computer when the clutch pedal is depressed. This signal is crucial for starting the engine, cruise control operation, and some gear selection displays. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series; the cruise control would randomly cut out, and it turned out to be a frayed wire going to the clutch switch.
