Altima Engine Overheating Air Flap Fault

I own a 2009 Nissan Altima with a gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light came on, and the engine is overheating. A scan showed an air flap fault. The car has 37685 km on it. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I also drive an Altima, and your symptoms sound familiar to a problem I had a while back. Was there a specific fault code? Mine was related to the flap motor in the thermal management system. The cooling system seemed to be working overtime, and I was concerned about potential engine damage.

Thanks for the reply. The fault code pointed towards a defective electromechanism controlling the air flaps. Did you try any troubleshooting yourself, or did you immediately go to a professional?

Given the potential for engine damage due to overheating, I took it directly to a trusted workshop. Replacing the defective flap motor resolved the issue. Considering the complexity of modern thermal management systems, I'd advise against a DIY repair unless you have considerable expertise.

I appreciate your advice. I will schedule an appointment with a reputable workshop to address the air flap fault. The estimated repair cost is approximately 590€. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
