Altima engine weak hissing sound
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Nissan Altima owner reported a weak engine, a hissing sound during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and occasional stalling. These symptoms were linked to a defective electrical bypass valve causing a boost pressure actuator fault. The issue was resolved by replacing the valve, restoring the car's performance.

Yeah, the power loss is pretty noticeable, and the hissing is quite loud. Actuator fault, huh? Where is that located, and how difficult is that to fix?

Well, I am no expert but I think it's part of the turbo system and controls the boost pressure. Honestly, I wouldn't attempt a repair myself unless you really know your way around cars. It could also be something else entirely. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop to be certain. They can diagnose it properly and give you an accurate quote.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a local workshop and you were spot on. Turns out it was a defective electrical bypass valve, causing the boost pressure actuator fault. They replaced it for 250€. Runs like new again.

Hey, I have an Altima as well and those symptoms sound familiar. Are you losing power, like the car is struggling to accelerate? And is the hissing noise really loud? Mine had a similar issue; turned out to be something with the turbo. Any chance it could be a boost pressure actuator fault or a problem with the turbo wastegate?
