Altima oil pressure warning lamp
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Nissan Altima owner reported an oil pressure warning lamp and loud mechanical noise from the engine. Despite no visible oil leakage and normal oil levels, the issue persisted. The problem was suspected to be low oil viscosity or a failing oil pump. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the oil pump was defective and needed replacement, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the reply. My Altima doesn't have an oil pressure gauge, unfortunately. The oil level seems okay, not too high or low. Could it be something more serious, like a failing oil pump?

Yeah, in my case with the Astra, it turned out to be the oil pump failure. That caused all sorts of problems. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop and have them check the oil pressure and the pump itself. Better safe than sorry with these kinds of issues.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a workshop as you suggested. Turns out the oil pump was indeed defective. Got it replaced, cost me around 755€, but the engine sounds normal again.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms, oil pressure light and weird engine noises. Have you checked the oil pressure gauge, if you have one? It could also be related to engine bearings. Is the oil level normal?
