Amarok Trans Issues: Fluid Change Could Be Key Fix

Thanks for sharing that experience with your Passat. I went through almost identical automatic transmission issues with my Amarok last winter. Ended up having both the voltage regulator and hydraulic fluid issues too. The transmission flush was just part of the bigger fix needed. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Just curious since I paid around 2100€ for the complete job, which felt steep at the time. Also, has your transmission been shifting smoothly since the repair? Mine has been great for 6 months now but always good to hear about long term results.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. The repair costs were significantly lower in my case, around 240€ for fixing the undervoltage issue in the automatic transmission system. The mechanic identified that the worn transmission oil was causing additional stress, but once replaced, the transmission started working perfectly again. My transmission has been shifting flawlessly for over two years now. The combination of addressing both the electrical problem and doing a proper transmission flush made a huge difference. The key was fixing the voltage regulator first, then doing the oil replacement to ensure the transmission could operate at optimal efficiency. Your 2100€ repair sounds like it might have included more extensive work on the transmission components. Each case can vary depending on what parts need replacement. The important thing is that both our vehicles are running smoothly now, proving that proper diagnosis and repair of transmission issues pays off in the long run.

After getting those replies, I finally decided to visit my trusted mechanic. The automatic gearbox symptoms were identical, slipping transmission, rough shifts, and that annoying warning light. The full diagnostic revealed both electrical and fluid issues in my transmission system. The total repair came to 1800€ which included: Voltage regulator replacement, Complete transmission flush, New transmission filter, Labor costs for testing and repairs The transmission has been shifting perfectly for the past 4 months. While the cost was significant, fixing it properly was worth every cent compared to risking a complete transmission failure. Having proper maintenance records will also help when I eventually sell the car. Looking back, this forum discussion helped me understand the issue better before heading to the shop. Instead of just getting an oil replacement, I knew to ask about checking the electrical system too. Really glad I got both problems fixed rather than trying cheaper temporary solutions.

Had similar transmission problems with my 2012 VW Passat. The symptoms matched exactly, rough shifting, warning lights, and the transmission going into limp mode. Initial diagnostics revealed the transmission fluid was degraded and contaminated. A transmission flush alone did not resolve the issue. The real problem was the transmission control module experiencing undervoltage due to a failing voltage regulator. The worn hydraulic fluid was actually a secondary issue making the symptoms worse. The repair required: New voltage regulator installation, Full transmission flush and filter change, Reset of transmission control module, Replacement of transmission solenoids This was a serious repair job that took several days to complete. Without proper diagnosis, many shops might have just done a transmission flush, which would have provided only temporary relief. These transmission problems often start subtle but can lead to complete transmission failure if not addressed properly. The car transmission requires both proper hydraulic fluid levels and correct electrical voltage to function normally. Recommend getting a complete diagnostic scan before any transmission work. The warning lights and rough shifting could indicate either electrical or hydraulic issues in the transmission system.
