AMG GT engine issues and EGR valve diagnosis

My 2022 Mercedes AMG GT gasoline engine is acting up. At 255011 km, the check engine light is on, power is way down, and it's puffing out smoke when I accelerate. It also has a rough idle, shocking fuel consumption, jerky acceleration, and a loud hissing noise when I accelerate. I suspect the EGR valve. Any thoughts?

Sounds rough. I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo V70 diesel: reduced power, smoke, the whole shebang. It turned out to be a clogged EGR valve. Does the hissing sound like it's coming from the engine bay, near where the EGR valve would be?

Yeah, the hissing seems to be coming from that general area. But is it definitely the EGR valve? I've heard those things can be tricky to diagnose. Is there anything I can check myself before buying a new valve?

It's tough to say definitively without proper diagnostics, but the symptoms and the hissing sound certainly point in that direction. Given your mileage, it's a likely culprit. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. They can run proper tests and confirm it, which could save you money and hassle.

Looks like I'm off to the workshop. The EGR valve was indeed the culprit as you said. Cost me 355€, but the car's running like a dream again. Thanks for the heads up.
