AMG GT Hybrid Active Air Flap Issue

You also encountered a similar active air flap fault manifesting as car overheating and the check engine indicator? When you say grille shutter, are we talking about the same active air flap mechanism controlling the air intake, or is there something else I should be inspecting? I’m trying to understand just how similar our situations are. Also, did you notice a change in fuel economy? I am sure the electromechanism is defective, but I want to be sure before I replace it.

Yeah, pretty much the same symptoms. Check engine and all that. I'm no expert, but the flaps behind the grille, those are the ones. Honestly, after poking around a bit, I took it straight to the shop. They said something about a faulty motor or sensor, I can't remember exactly. But it sounds like your electromechanism defective diagnosis could be right. Honestly, I'd get it checked out by a professional. I don't think I would have been able to fix it myself.

I appreciate your input and shared experience! I will be taking it to the shop, your confirming that you had a similar issue gives me some confidence that my diagnosis isn't totally off base. Hopefully, the 590€ estimate will cover the repairs. Thank you for the advice!

That sounds rough! I think I had something similar happen with my AMG GT a while back. The check engine light was on, and I noticed it was running hotter than usual too. It felt like the car overheating was getting worse in traffic. Have you tried checking if the grille shutter is moving freely? That's what I did at first, but it didn't really tell me much. Is the performance also affected or is it just the temperature gauge?
