AMG GT Hybrid Airbag Warning Light Issue
Summary of the thread
The airbag warning light in a 2020 Mercedes AMG GT hybrid is on, indicating a rollover sensor malfunction. The mechanic suspects a defective control unit as the cause, but it could also be due to issues with the wiring harness or connections. Before replacing the control unit, it is advised to conduct a thorough check of the wiring and connections to the tilt sensor to ensure accurate diagnosis and maintain vehicle safety.

Thanks for the response. I understand. I'm not sure if he thoroughly checked the wiring harness and connections specifically to the tilt sensor. Is there a way to know if the sensor itself is bad, other than checking the control unit?

It can be hard to confirm sensor functionality without special diagnostic equipment. Given the symptoms and the potential impact on vehicle safety, I'd go back to the workshop and ask about the wiring. If they haven't, maybe a more in-depth diagnosis is needed before replacing the control unit. Sensor failure is possible, but verification is wise. You should address this issue because vehicle safety is important. It's better to be safe.

I appreciate the advice. I'll go back to the workshop and ask for a more complete diagnosis, focusing on the wiring and the tilt sensor. I will post an account after it's resolved. Thanks again.

That's an interesting issue. While a defective control unit could be causing the SRS sensor malfunction, many things can trigger such a fault. I saw something similar with a Volvo once, though it was a different system. The tilt sensor had similar symptoms: stored error, airbag light, and so on. Before getting a new control unit, I'd check the wiring harness and connections to the sensor. A break or corrosion can look like a sensor failure. Did the mechanic check the wiring and the tilt sensor itself?
