I also have an AMG GT, and this sounds familiar. When my check engine light came on with similar symptoms – rough idle and what felt like drinking fuel – it turned out to be related to a sensor connection. It's like your car's computer is getting bad information, and that messes everything up. Did you check the connection to the knock sensor itself? Is it visibly loose or corroded?

Indeed, a compromised connection does seem plausible. When you experienced a similar issue, was the engine knock truly perceptible, or was the malfunction indicator light the primary indicator? Furthermore, did the diagnostic readout explicitly identify the knock sensor, or did you arrive at that conclusion through a process of elimination?

The engine knock wasn't super obvious at first, more like a slight hesitation. The auto repair shop's diagnostic tool pointed directly to the knock sensor as the source of the warning light. Given your symptoms and the diagnostic result you mentioned, I'd say it's worth having the connections thoroughly checked before replacing the sensor itself. Good luck!

I extend my sincere gratitude for your shared experiences and insights. Your analogy regarding the car's computer receiving faulty information resonated deeply. Following your advice, I meticulously inspected the cable and plug connection to the knock sensor. Alas, my initial assessment proved accurate; a corroded connector was indeed the source of the malfunction. A thorough cleaning and subsequent reattachment have, thus far, resolved the issue. The engine now idles smoothly, and the dreaded check engine light has extinguished. The estimated auto repair cost was spot on as well! Once again, thank you for your invaluable assistance.
