AMG GT Hybrid Generator Issues

I'm having trouble with my 2020 Mercedes AMG GT hybrid I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, and a warning light keeps popping up on the speedometer Starting the car has become a real pain, and the lights are either weak or flickering I ran a diagnostic, and it's showing an error related to the generator Could this be the culprit I've also experienced intermittent engine misfire The car has 93796 km on it I suspect it might be the generator itself that's defective Could a failing generator cause all these symptoms, including the engine misfire, or am I looking at multiple issues I'm trying to avoid replacing parts unnecessarily I checked the serpentine belt and it seems fine, but I'm wondering if a voltage drop from a bad generator could also be messing with the starter motor and causing a 'battery low' situation, even if the battery is relatively new I'm looking at a 960€ repair bill, so I want to be sure before I commit

That sounds like a total nightmare I had a similar issue with my older AMG GT, not the hybrid version, but it was still a pain The flickering lights and reduced power are dead giveaways When my generator went bad, it caused all sorts of weird electrical issues The engine misfire could be related, especially if the voltage is all over the place These cars are super sensitive to voltage fluctuations Check your grounds too A bad ground can mimic a failing generator But yeah, it really does sound like your generator is fried Before you drop almost a grand, though, have you had the battery properly load tested Sometimes a weak battery can cause similar symptoms and trigger generator issues But honestly, based on what you're describing, I'm 90% sure it's the generator Did you notice any weird noises coming from the engine bay before this all started

Thanks for the input Weird noises, no not really I mean, the engine misfire sounds a bit rough, but nothing out of the ordinary before the warning lights You mentioned checking the grounds Where exactly should I be looking, and what am I looking for Is there anything I can do with a multimeter to confirm the generator is actually faulty before I take it in I'd like to be absolutely sure before I shell out that kind of money You said you had similar problems with your AMG GT Was it the exact same symptoms, and what was the final diagnosis and fix

Okay, no weird noises is good, or at least not as helpful to narrow things down As for the grounds, check the main ones from the battery to the chassis and engine block Make sure they're clean and tight Corroded grounds can cause voltage drops and all sorts of electrical gremlins With a multimeter, you can check the voltage at the generator while the engine is running It should be putting out around 14 volts If it's significantly lower, or fluctuating wildly, that's a strong indicator the generator is bad In my case, it was almost the exact same symptoms: flickering lights, reduced power, and eventually, the car wouldn't even start The dealer confirmed it was the generator, and a new one fixed everything It's worth getting a second opinion, but honestly, it sounds like your generator is toast Just bite the bullet and get it sorted before it leaves you stranded somewhere

Appreciate the advice, especially about checking the voltage with a multimeter I did that, and the voltage was all over the place, definitely not a steady 14V I took it to the workshop as you suggested They confirmed that the generator was indeed defective After replacing it, everything is back to normal No more warning lights, engine is running smoothly, and the lights are bright again Thanks again for your help
