AMG GT Hybrid Parking Assist Fault

My 2019 Mercedes AMG GT Hybrid is throwing a parking aid fault. 51323 km on the clock. The parking assist is completely non-functional, and the error memory shows a fault. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Estimate is 95€ for repair. Has anyone else run into this with their ultrasonic or radar sensors? It affects the rearview camera too since that relies on the parking assist system.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Mercedes AMG GT Hybrid is experiencing a parking assist fault, rendering the system non-functional and affecting the rearview camera. The issue is suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection. Possible causes include a faulty sensor, wiring issue, or control module problem. The solution involved identifying a corroded connector on a rear ultrasonic sensor, which was cleaned by a workshop, resolving the fault.

I have experienced similar issues with my AMG GT. The parking assist system relies on a network of ultrasonic sensors, radar sensors (if equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems), and a central control module. The rearview camera is often integrated into this system. The error you are seeing could stem from a faulty sensor, a wiring issue, or a problem with the control module itself. Have you checked the connections to the sensors? A loose or corroded connector can easily trigger this kind of fault.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the connections myself yet. Where are the ultrasonic sensors located exactly? And is there a specific control module I should be looking for, or is it integrated with something else?

The ultrasonic sensors are typically located in the front and rear bumpers. Their precise locations will be detailed in the vehicle's technical documentation, but visually inspecting the bumpers should reveal them. As for the control module, it is often a dedicated unit for the parking assist system, though it may interface with the central vehicle control unit. I would advise against probing these systems yourself, unless you are familiar with automotive diagnostic procedures. Given the relatively low cost of diagnosis, a trip to a qualified workshop might be the most prudent course of action.

Appreciate the advice. Sounds like a trip to the shop is the best bet. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and clarifying the sensor locations and control module situation. Turns out it was a corroded connector on one of the rear ultrasonic sensors, just like you suspected. The shop cleaned it up, and everything is working again.
