Arkana clutch switch issues

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2022 Renault Arkana Hybrid. It's got about 171,672 km on the clock. Recently, I've been getting an error stored in the memory, and the gear selection display in the speedometer just shows dashes. My cruise control refuses to engage, and sometimes the engine won't even start! I scanned it, and it points towards a bad clutch pedal switch. Could a faulty clutch switch really cause all these problems? I've checked the obvious stuff, and it looks like a cable or plug connection of the component is defective. I'm not a mechanic, but it seems like a safety mechanism gone haywire. Any thoughts before I potentially shell out 95€ for a replacement?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Renault Arkana Hybrid with 171,672 km is experiencing issues such as an error in memory, gear selection display showing dashes, cruise control not engaging, and occasional engine starting failures. The suspected cause is a faulty clutch pedal switch, which acts as a safety interlock affecting multiple systems. The solution involves checking and potentially replacing the clutch switch and its connections, which resolved the issues when addressed.

I had something similar happen with my Arkana. The cruise control thing and the starting issue sound very familiar. The clutch switch is basically a safety interlock; if the car doesn't think the clutch is engaged when starting, it won't let you crank the engine. It’s like a bouncer at a club – if it doesn't see the right ID (clutch depressed), you're not getting in (engine not starting).

Interesting. So, the cruise control and gear selection display are also tied to this clutch switch? It seems odd that one little switch could cause so many different symptoms. Did you also get an error stored in the memory?

Yep, all those symptoms can be related. Modern cars are wired so that a single faulty sensor can throw off multiple systems. Think of it like a chain reaction. As for the error stored in the memory, yes, I had that too. I'd say it's worth getting it checked out at a workshop to confirm it’s definitely the switch and nothing else. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the insight! I took your advice and brought it to the shop. Turns out it was indeed the clutch switch and a dodgy connector, just as suspected. They replaced it, and everything is back to normal now. Really appreciate the help!
