When you say 'physical damage', what exactly should I be looking for?

In my case, the control rod had snapped, but sometimes it might just be bent or partially broken. Get under the car with a flashlight. If it's not immediately obvious, I'd recommend a workshop diagnosis before replacing parts. Could save money.

I took your tip and had a look. Couldn't see anything obvious, so I booked it in. It was the control rod on the load sensor, like you said! Cost 110€ to fix.

I had similar symptoms with my old Volvo V70. The bumpy ride and headlight issues point towards a problem with the leveling system. Have you checked for any physical damage to the load sensor control rod?
