Yes, I visually inspected the cable and plug. Didn't spot any obvious damage like breaks or corrosion. Is there a specific way to test the connection beyond a visual check, perhaps with a multimeter?

A multimeter would be useful for checking continuity and voltage. However, given the symptoms and your inspection, it's probably best to have a workshop diagnose it properly. They can use diagnostic tools to pinpoint the issue more accurately.

Confirmed. Workshop diagnosed it as a faulty engine oil temperature sensor due to a defective plug connection. Repair cost was 95€. Thanks for the advice.

It certainly sounds like a faulty oil temperature sensor could be the culprit, especially with those symptoms. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor itself? Any signs of damage or corrosion?
