Ascent Rain & Light Sensors Fail, Multiple Systems Down

Need advice for rain-light sensor problems on my 2022 Ascent. Several systems stopped working including auto wipers, auto headlights, and dash dimming. Check engine light is on. Already have bad experience with mechanics, so looking for tips before taking it in. Currently at 86310 KM. Has anyone dealt with similar light sensor issues and can recommend reliable fixes? Thanks for any guidance on this car electronics problem.

The symptoms you describe match what I encountered with the light sensor module on my 2019 Subaru Outback. The failure of multiple auto systems together typically indicates issues with the main sensor unit located near the rearview mirror mount. In my case, the bubbles forming under the gel pad caused poor contact between car components and triggered cascade failures across connected systems. The root cause was deterioration of the rain-light sensor seal, allowing moisture to penetrate the unit. This is a serious electrical fault requiring complete sensor replacement, as moisture damage to auto sensor units is not repairable. The repair involves: Removing the old sensor assembly, Cleaning the mounting surface, Installing new weather sealing, Fitting a new rain detection and light sensor unit, Recalibrating the system Key signs of sensor failure include: Multiple automatic systems failing simultaneously, Error codes related to rain sensor communication, Dash warning lights, Inconsistent auto headlight operation Recommend having this addressed promptly as failed sensors can lead to additional electrical system complications. The repair requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly calibrate the new unit.

Thanks for that detailed explanation about the sensor fault. Your Outback issue sounds exactly like what my Ascent is experiencing now. Really appreciate the clear breakdown of the repair process. Quick follow-up: curious how much the complete sensor replacement ended up costing you? Also wondering if youve had any other electrical issues pop up since getting it fixed? The auto sensor problems on my car have me worried about potential future complications. Would be really helpful to know if the fix has held up for you before I commit to the same repair.

Had the malfunctioning sensor fixed last month and no issues since then. The primary problem was indeed those bubbles forming under the gel pad, which caused the rain-light sensor to malfunction. Total repair cost was 62€ just to replace and reseal the mounting pad. The auto sensor repair has completely resolved all the electrical faults, automatic wipers, headlights and dash dimming are working perfectly now. No additional sensor problems or warning lights have appeared since the fix. Important to note that catching this early prevented more extensive electrical system damage. The repair shop confirmed that deteriorating sensor seals often lead to moisture-related issues if left unchecked. Would definitely recommend getting yours checked out before more auto systems start failing. The sensor calibration process was quick and the whole repair took under 2 hours. The new mounting seal should prevent any future moisture intrusion issues with the light sensor unit.

After getting your input, I finally got my Ascent fixed yesterday. The mechanic confirmed it was exactly the sensor issue you mentioned. Really glad I went in prepared with the knowledge about the gel pad problems. The whole repair only took about 90 minutes. Total cost came to 85€ for parts and labor. They showed me the old sensor unit and I could clearly see the moisture damage and bubbling you described. The malfunctioning sensor had definitely seen better days. All my car electronics are working perfectly now, the auto wipers kick in right when needed, headlights adjust automatically, and the dash dimming is back to normal. The electrical fault codes are gone and no more warning lights on the dash. The repair shop also applied an improved weather sealant around the new rain sensor that they said should prevent similar issues in the future. Really appreciate the heads up about this common problem. Saved me from a potentially bigger headache down the road.
