Aslan NOx sensor error
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Hyundai Aslan with a gasoline engine is experiencing a check engine light due to a NOx sensor error, accompanied by a smell of exhaust fumes. The issue is suspected to be a faulty connection, possibly due to corrosion. The suggested solution is to inspect the NOx sensor connection near the catalytic converter for any visible looseness or corrosion. Cleaning the corroded connection resolved the error.

Interesting! When you say 'loose' connection, do you mean like, visibly disconnected, or just a bit corroded and not making good contact? Where exactly was the connection point you're talking about?

Visibly loose. It wasn’t completely disconnected, but enough to cause the issue. Find the NOx sensor (it should be near the catalytic converter), and follow the cable. The connector I'm talking about is inline, maybe 15-20cm from the sensor itself. Honestly, though, if you're smelling exhaust, that could be a separate issue, or related in a way you need a professional to check out.

Okay, awesome! I'll check those connections first thing in the morning. If not that, I'll bite the bullet and take it in. Thanks for the advice! Turns out you were right, corrosion got to the plug, cleaned it and the error went away. Cost me 95€ for the workshop to clean it.

I had something similar happen with my Aslan. Check engine light, same NOx sensor error. Is it running rough at all? For me, it turned out to be a bad connection – the cable to the sensor had come loose. Worth checking before you dive into replacing the whole sensor.
