Astra ABS and Steering Issues

I've got a 2010 Vauxhall Astra diesel with 103376 km on the clock. Recently, the tire pressure low warning light has come on. I've also noticed the ABS lamp lights up intermittently, a vibrating/shaking steering wheel, and increased steering effort, almost like the power steering is failing. I've checked the inflated tires, but the tire pressure seems fine. Could a valve in the tire be defective even with no visible pressure loss?

Hey! I had something similar happen with my Astra. The low tire pressure light was on, and the steering felt really heavy. I also got some shaking. First thing, are you sure all your tires are inflated tires at the same pressure? Sometimes even a slight difference can trigger the warning. Did you check the spare?

Thanks for the quick response! I checked all four tires; they seem to be at the correct pressure. I haven't checked the spare, though. Could that really cause all these symptoms, including the ABS light?

Well, the spare probably wouldn't cause the ABS light, you're right. When mine was doing that, the tire pressure was only slightly off, but the valve was faulty, causing a slow leak. It wasn't enough to make the tire look flat. With the ABS light and the steering issues, it might be best to get it looked at by a workshop, just to be safe. It could be related to the ABS sensor or power steering pump too, but definitely worth checking the tire pressure sensors first.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I'll get it to a workshop. It turned out to be a faulty tire valve, as you suspected, plus a failing ABS sensor. Repair cost was 280€ Much appreciated!
