Astra Anti Theft Alarm Malfunction

Hi, I'm having some issues with my 2002 Vauxhall Astra diesel. The anti-theft alarm seems to be malfunctioning. The error memory has a stored error, and the alarm system is non-functional. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be something simple, or am I looking at a bigger problem?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Vauxhall Astra diesel experienced a malfunctioning anti-theft alarm with a stored error in the system. The issue was identified as incorrect coding of the alarm system, specifically related to the optical locking feature. The solution involved taking the car to a workshop where the alarm was recoded, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I also own an Astra, and a similar thing happened to me last year. Have you noticed if your indicators flash when you lock the car? Does the car make noise?

Yeah, the indicators flash when locking. I think it might be related. What did you end up doing?

That's exactly what was happening with mine! Apparently, the alarm system was coded to activate the optical locking, which caused the fault. I ended up taking it to a workshop to get it sorted out. It's probably the best thing to do rather than messing with it yourself.

Thanks for the info! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on - the alarm was coded wrong. They recoded it, and it cost me 45€. All sorted now!
