Astra diesel engine losing power

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2004 Vauxhall Astra diesel. The check engine light keeps popping up, and the engine feels like it's lost a good chunk of its power. It's also got poor engine response, sometimes even stalling at idle. I've noticed higher fuel consumption and a whistling noise, especially when accelerating, almost like a loud hissing. I've only got 24429 km on the clock. Could it be the MAP sensor causing this? I've read that a bad boost pressure system can cause similar symptoms.

Based on the symptoms you described, including the reduced engine power, whistling noise during acceleration, and the check engine light, it is plausible that there is an issue within the boost pressure system. Have you noticed any black smoke emitting from the exhaust, in addition to the listed symptoms?

I haven't really noticed any black smoke, but it's difficult to tell for sure. Would a faulty wastegate valve cause all these problems? I've been doing some research, and it seems like that could be the culprit.

A defective wastegate valve could very well be the origin of the problems you are experiencing. The symptoms described align with such a failure. Given the intricacies of the boost pressure system, I would strongly advise seeking assistance from a qualified workshop to properly diagnose and rectify the fault.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local mechanic, and you were right; it was the wastegate valve. Cost me 860€ to get it fixed, but the car runs like new again. Appreciate the help!
