Astra diesel exhaust pressure fault
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Vauxhall Astra diesel exhibited warning lights, reduced engine power, smoke on acceleration, and a strong exhaust odor. These symptoms suggested a potential diesel particulate filter pressure fault or a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. A diagnostic scan was recommended to confirm the issue, which ultimately identified a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. The repair was completed for 245€, resolving the problem.

Error codes? Are they imperative before further action? I presumed the symptoms indicated a sensor malfunction. Would a diagnostic scan provide confirmation, or are there alternative ways to ascertain the fault's origin?

Getting those error codes read was crucial in my experience with the Peugeot. It pinpointed the faulty sensor, saving me from replacing the entire DPF. And yes, my fuel consumption went up. I'd take it to a trusted workshop for a diagnostic check before spending serious money. It's better to be sure.

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my 2016 Peugeot 308: warning lights, sluggish performance, awful smell, like driving a tractor. Did you get any error codes read? The garage determined my back pressure sensor was the problem. The particulate filter itself can be expensive, so I'd rule out cheaper options first. Was your fuel consumption also affected?
