Astra engine knock and smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Vauxhall Astra experienced engine knock, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, and smoke, with an error code stored. The issues were worse when the engine was cold, suggesting potential combustion problems. It was advised to conduct a thorough diagnostic check, which revealed deposits in the combustion chamber. After cleaning and tuning, the car's performance improved significantly.

Thanks for the reply. It does seem worse when the engine is cold, yeah. Could it be something simple like needing higher octane fuel or adjusting the ignition timing?

While fuel octane and ignition timing can influence engine performance, the cold-start aggravation and the presence of smoke strongly suggest a more significant issue, like deposits in the combustion chamber. Given the array of symptoms and the stored error, a thorough diagnostic check at a qualified workshop is highly recommended.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a local garage and they confirmed deposits in the combustion chamber. Got it cleaned out and the engine tuned, cost me 425€. Running much better now!

The symptoms you describe for your 2019 Vauxhall Astra, particularly the engine knock, reduced power, jerking, and smoke, along with a stored error code, do point towards potential combustion issues. Have you noticed if the problem is worse under specific conditions, such as when the engine is cold or under heavy load?
