Astra Gear Shift Indicator Failure

Thanks for the quick reply. It happened pretty suddenly, no recent work done. Which sensor was faulty on your Megane? Was it an easy fix?

On my Megane, it was the gear position sensor on the transmission itself. Unfortunately, it wasn't a simple fix. Access was awkward, and the sensor was a pain to remove. Given the symptoms and error code you mentioned, it could be a control unit issue in your Astra, which is often more complex. Considering it impacts gear engagement, slippage, and display, I would recommend getting it checked by a workshop. It might save you money in the long run, especially if it's an affected control unit. My Renault needed a new one, and it wasn't cheap!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a workshop visit is the best course of action. The garage confirmed it's a defective control unit, and the repairs will cost 1000€. I appreciate the help!

That sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane a while back. The gear selection display went haywire, and the shifting became jerky. It turned out to be a dodgy sensor. Was there any recent work on the car, or did this happen suddenly? Have you checked the basics, like fuses?
