Astra Hissing and Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Vauxhall Astra is experiencing increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing noise during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential air intake system leak, possibly due to a split intake hose. A similar issue was resolved by replacing a split hose near the engine block, which improved performance and resolved the warning light.

Misfiring? Not noticeably, but the hissing is definitely tied to engine speed. Where was the leak in your case?

Mine was a split in the hose right near the engine block, a pain to spot. If you can't find it yourself, a workshop will locate it quickly. Replacing it resolved everything.

Right, I'll give it another look, but probably best to get it on a lift. Thanks for confirming, will report back after the repair. Estimate is around 100€.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my Astra. Check that intake hose thoroughly; a small leak can cause big problems, like trying to run a marathon with a clogged nose. Is the engine misfiring?
