Astra Outside Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Vauxhall Astra is experiencing issues with the outside temperature sensor, affecting the AC, windscreen washer jets, and heated mirrors. The problem may be due to a faulty sensor, a dodgy connection, or a broken wire. While the sensor appears visually fine, without proper testing equipment, the exact cause is uncertain. It is recommended to have a professional check the system, as the issue could be resolved quickly by a workshop.

Yeah, I found the sensor. Looks okay, visually at least. I haven't got a multimeter to test it, and the wiring looks fine at first glance. Was it definitely the sensor for you, or could it be something else? Is it something I should ignore?

Without testing the sensor and the wiring properly, it's hard to say for sure. Could be a broken wire further up the line, a corroded connector... the possibilities are endless! I fiddled around with it for a bit, but eventually, I just took it to a workshop. They sorted it out in no time. Unless you're really confident with car electrics, I'd say get it checked. It's not worth the hassle.

Cheers for the advice. I'll book it in at the garage then. They reckon it's the cable or plug connection that's defective, and they're quoting around 95€ to sort it. Sounds reasonable enough.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Astra. Same symptoms - AC packed in, weird stuff happening with the temperature monitoring. Did you check the sensor itself? Have you even located it? It's usually behind the front bumper, drivers' side.
