Yeah, ran a car diagnostics, and it flagged a control unit communication error. They're saying it's likely a faulty cable or plug connection on the component, but I'm not sure what they mean by that. What component are they talking about? And could a bad connection really cause all these problems?

A bad connection in the CAN bus system can definitely wreak havoc and trigger those symptoms. If the diagnostic pointed to a comms error and they suspect a dodgy connection, it's worth checking all the relevant wiring and connectors related to the control modules. Though, with those symptoms, it may be time to visit a workshop and let them trace the cables for you.

It was indeed a faulty connection, which caused the control unit communication error and all those issues. Paid 95€ and everything seems to be fine now. Cheers!

Overheating, check engine light, and coolant leak… that sounds rough. A control unit error could be the culprit, but those symptoms can stem from a bunch of things. Has the car been diagnosed? What codes is it throwing?
