Astra Overheating Issue

Hey, I've got a 2008 Vauxhall Astra with a gasoline engine. It's done 165907 kilometers and the check engine light keeps coming on with overheating. I think it's the active air flap system, maybe a bad motor. Anyone had similar overheating issues on their Astras? Could it just be the flap motor or something else in the air intake?

The Astra's active air flap can be a pain. Your symptoms sound like the flap motor is failing. Before you replace it, check the wiring and connector for damage or corrosion. What fault code is the engine throwing?

Thanks! I checked the wiring and didn't see anything obvious, but I should test it properly. The fault code is P0597 - 'Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open'. Could that still be the air flap, or is it a separate problem?

P0597 points to the thermostat circuit, but it can be triggered by other thermal management issues, like the air flaps. It's complex, and you could misdiagnose it. I'd get a professional opinion and a proper diagnostic.

Cheers, that sounds right. I'll book it in with a garage for a diagnostic. They quoted 590€ for the repair, which I'll pay to keep it running well. Thanks for the help!
