Astra Overheating Slow Warm Up

My 2009 Vauxhall Astra with a gasoline engine is giving me a headache. Mileage is 112368 km. I'm pretty sure the thermostat cooling circuit motor is failing. The engine's overheating, and it's taking ages to warm up. I suspect the map thermostat – seems to be a common issue. Has anyone else run into this?

I had a similar problem with my Astra. I don't remember the build year exactly, but it was doing the same thing – overheating and taking forever to warm up. Did you check the water pump, or see any signs of a coolant leak? I'm not very technically inclined, but I'd check those two things first.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't noticed any coolant leaks and the water pump seems okay for now. I've read that the thermostats on these are known to fail. Did your issue also turn out to be the thermostat? And did replacing it fix both overheating and slow warm up problems?

Yes, in my case replacing the thermostat fixed both issues. Since you've ruled out other potential issues, it might be a good idea to get it checked by a workshop. The repair cost was around 350€, so better be sure before paying for it.

Appreciate the confirmation. It sounds like our issues are identical. I'll get it booked in at a workshop. The thermostat is probably the culprit and I'll mention the coolant system while I'm there. Thanks again!
