Astra start stop issue

My 2017 Vauxhall Astra diesel is giving me grief with its start-stop system. Mileage is at 212524 km. The error memory is storing a fault, and the engine keeps shutting off when it shouldn't. The warning light on the speedometer is mocking me. I suspect it's battery-related, possibly heavily discharged or defective. Anyone else run into this with their Astra?

Could be the battery, yes. How old is it? And has it been properly tested? Automatic restart issues like that can be a pain, and it definitely sounds like a power supply problem to me. Have you tried checking the voltage?

Thanks for the quick reply! The battery is original, so about 7 years old now. I haven't checked the voltage myself, as I don't have the equipment to do so. Is there a specific voltage reading I should be looking for?

Seven years is a good innings for a battery. Without a proper voltage check, it's hard to say for sure, but it does sound like it's on its way out. Honestly, I'd get it checked professionally, as a defective battery can cause all sorts of weird issues with modern cars. Best go to a workshop!

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and they confirmed the battery was heavily discharged and defective. New battery fitted, and the start-stop system is working perfectly again. Cost me 290€ all in, but worth it for the peace of mind. Thanks for the advice!
