Thanks for sharing your experience with the brake light switch replacement. After reading your post, I had almost identical issues with my Atlas last winter. Got it fixed with a new brake switch and the electrical issue was resolved completely, no more warning lights or system errors. Can you share what the switch replacement ended up costing you? My repair was around 180€ for parts and labor, but prices might have changed. Also curious if youve had any other brake light related problems since the fix?

Just had my brake light switch issue resolved last week actually, turned out it wasnt even a faulty switch! The mechanic found the brake pedal was slightly sticking, causing the switch to misread. A quick adjustment and cleaning of the pedal mechanism fixed the problem completely. No parts needed to be replaced, so the repair cost was 0€. Since this fix, all brake light related problems have disappeared completely. No more error messages in the system and the brake lights are working perfectly. The mechanic explained that brake switch issues are common on these models, but sometimes its just a matter of proper adjustment rather than needing a full switch replacement. Really glad I got it checked out properly instead of immediately replacing parts. When dealing with brake light switch problems, its worth having a thorough inspection first to rule out simple fixes like this one.

Going to the mechanic finally paid off. Took the Atlas in last month for the brake light issue, and it was exactly what we suspected, a faulty brake light switch causing those system errors. The repair was straightforward and the vehicle safety system is now working perfectly. The mechanic showed me the old switch which had worn contacts causing intermittent tail light operation. Total cost came to 175€ for parts and labor, which seems fair considering the specialized diagnostic work needed for these electrical issues. Since the brake switch replacement, all warning lights have cleared and the brake system is responding correctly. No more error messages in the infotainment display either. The repair shop also did a complete brake system check while they had it up on the lift, giving me extra peace of mind. Really satisfied with how this turned out. The car drives like new again and all safety features are working as intended. Much better experience than my previous mechanic visit.

Recently dealt with a similar brake light issue on my 2021 VW Tiguan. The brake switch malfunction caused intermittent tail light operation and triggered dashboard warnings. The brake light switch was indeed faulty, causing communication errors between the brake pedal sensor and vehicle safety systems. This is a critical component as it controls both the physical brake lights and sends signals to multiple vehicle control modules. The repair involved removing the old brake switch assembly near the pedal and installing a new one with updated connectors. The job required clearing the error codes after installation to ensure proper system communication. This is not a minor issue since the brake switch affects several vehicle safety systems, including brake lights and cruise control functionality. The symptoms you describe match what many VW owners experience when the brake switch starts failing. Important to address this promptly as faulty brake lights create significant safety risks, especially during night driving. A certified shop should be able to diagnose and replace the automotive switch in about an hour. Would recommend getting it checked soon, as these electrical gremlins tend to worsen over time and could affect other connected systems.
