Atos reduced engine power

Hi, I've got a 2014 Hyundai Atos with a gasoline engine, and I'm experiencing some issues. The engine power is noticeably reduced, and the check engine light is now on. I suspect it might be the throttle valve. I've read it could be related to the accelerator pedal module or some faulty electronics inside. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Hyundai Atos is experiencing reduced engine power and an illuminated check engine light, suspected to be due to a throttle valve issue. The symptoms, including a delayed response from the accelerator pedal, suggest a malfunction in the throttle body or related components, possibly causing the car to enter 'limp mode.' The problem was confirmed to be a defective accelerator pedal module, which, once replaced, resolved the issue.

Greetings. The symptoms you describe indeed point towards a potential throttle body issue. The 'reduced engine power' and the illuminated 'check engine light' are common indicators. The throttle valve, responsible for regulating air intake, can cause such problems when malfunctioning. It is as if the engine is trying to breathe through a constricted airway. Have you observed any response delay from the accelerator pedal? Knowing this would help to narrow down the possibilities.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, there is a definite response delay when I press the accelerator. It's not immediate like it used to be. Does this confirm the throttle valve issue?

Yes, the presence of a response delay reinforces the likelihood of a defective throttle valve or associated components. The delay, coupled with the reduced power and warning light, suggests the car might be entering a 'limp mode' to prevent further damage. Given the car's mileage (57870 km), wear and tear could certainly be a factor. It would be prudent to take it to a qualified workshop for a thorough diagnosis and repair. Continuing to drive with this issue could potentially exacerbate the problem. Based on the probable cause you cited, the repair cost will be around 265€.

Understood. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and providing the cost estimate. I appreciate the detailed explanation. I'll get it to a workshop ASAP. It turns out, the accelerator pedal module was indeed defective, and after replacement, everything is working as it should again.
