Audi A1 model year 2018: Erratic running, engine stuttering and black smoke - causes and solutions?

Stalling while idling

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Engine shuts off by itself

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Strong exhaust smell

Hi, I have quite a problem with my 2018 Audi A1 and maybe you can help me. It's running very rough and jerks when accelerating. At full load it stutters and even at idle it stalls. In addition, I get black smoke from the exhaust, the stuff smells bad and my fuel consumption is also high. I noticed the other day that the check engine light is on and the power is dropping significantly. I think it could be the fuel pump, but would like to know if any of you have had similar problems and how it was solved at the garage? I would be grateful for any tips.

Hi mate, I once had a similar problem with my 2016 Audi A3. I have limited experience with car repairs, but I've always gone to the garage for problems like this. In my case, the wiring harness/connector was faulty and it cost exactly 95 euros to fix. It could be that your car has the same problem. Would it be possible for you to tell me a bit more about your car, how many kilometers it has driven, whether it is still under warranty and when the last inspection was? Then I might be able to give you a few more tips. And it's always best to call in a professional.

Hey, thanks for your reply. My Audi now has 56758 kilometers down and the last inspection was at the exact mileage. Unfortunately, the warranty has expired. I'll definitely have the wiring harness checked but I'll have to wait and see what the garage says. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, no problem, always welcome! With this number of kilometers, a defective fuel pump might actually be a possibility. The parts simply give up the ghost after a certain mileage. But that wasn't the case with my A3, to be honest. I would still recommend having this checked. Even if the check engine light comes on and you feel a loss of engine power, it should be checked by a specialist. This can be caused by many things, and it's always better to get it sorted out early so that the damage doesn't get any worse. So, cheer up, you'll get it sorted. Good luck at the garage and let me know when you know more. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing serious!

Hey, I'm glad to hear that! Yes, I'm also afraid that the fuel pump could be the problem. Your advice with the professional was really good, I'll get it checked as soon as possible. I also hope it's nothing serious. Mega grateful for your support! As soon as I have any news, I'll let you know. See you then!
